Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Aaron, Helen and I went to see the highly-recommended monkey and fire dances at a little temple in Ubud, Indonesia. Aaron and I had spent the day wandering around the city, eating alongside lush rice paddies and running away from vicious monkeys in the park; despite the city’s laid-back charm, great shopping and restaurants, and very friendly people, this cultural show was by far my favourite part of Ubud.
There are a few moments on my trip that I will always remember, if only because they gave me shivers, because I had to pinch myself over and over to remind myself that this wasn’t a dream, that I was here. Watching this show was one of those moments. Forgive the video and sound quality, but trust me when I say it was magical. We all sat there grinning like idiots, mesmerised by the 100+ chorus of men. It may not mean much to an outside viewer, but I watch this video and I have to remind myself that this wasn’t a dream, that I was there, that it all really happened.

I love those experiences that just leave you grinning. I once went to a samba rehearsal for Carnival in Rio, and I could not stop smiling afterwards! I couldn’t believe what I was getting to experience.
This performance looks enthralling! And I really like how they lit up the temple in the background.
What a wonderful experience! Ubud sounds spectacular.
