You Better Belize It

San Pedro, Belize
We’re now in San Pedro, the largest town in the cayes of Belize. It is filled with colourful buildings and friendly locals, but the best part is that you are never more than a stone’s throw from the sparkling turquoise sea. We are tempted daily by sailboat cruises, diving excursions, and half-day fishing trips, but nothing is tempting enough to lure us away from sitting on the sand all day, relaxing in the shade of the palm trees, a Belikin beer in hand. Our biggest concern seems to be whether we should get the shrimp ceviche or the tuna ceviche.
There are travellers who cram their days with activities; I am the complete opposite. When I travel, I like to take my time, to talk to people, to sample the local food, to go for leisurely walks, to relax and take in the sights. I am perfectly content to while the days away sitting in a cafe or with my toes in the sand. San Pedro is perfect for me, then, but I wonder…who would it not be perfect for?

Wow – Belize looks so amazing! This is where I’ll be doing my visa runs once I head to Honduras in the fall. Can’t wait. Do you dive?

(PS. New reader, first time commenter. I am also from the prairies with an incurable case of wanderlust – is that what endless skies and not much else around does to us? I also have a huge affinity for Japan too…I thought I was the only prairie girl who wanted to go to such a different place. My friends still think I’m crazy and I haven’t been back to Japan since 2009!)

Christine – Thank you! You should definitely come here!

EM – I do dive, but I’m saving my diving for later on in my trip. There is some great diving here, though!! I’m glad to hear about another prairie girl with such wanderlust as me. Japan is such an amazing country, I really miss living there!

It looks amazing Brenna!

I like to take my time too — I feel like I enjoy my travels better if I’m not rushing around trying to fit everything in. My husband is a little bit the other way but I suppose it’s good because eventually, he gets me going!

those pics look amazing. the guacamole and tacos (if that’s what they are) look tantalizing. I too love to take my time when I travel somewhere. I mean you came all the way, might as well take it all in while it lasts. But then again, you go on LONG trips, so you have more time than travellers who go for short trips. like the CHINA in 7days trips
